Todd Palin - Thoroughly Modern Husband

Palin not only quit his job to avoid a conflict of interest with her administration, he's also helping out with the kids. Well, maybe that's be raising the kids; whatever the case may be, he is a thoroughly modern husband.
With all those questions about what do husbands of Vice-Presidents or Presidents do, clearly they put on a nice suit and show up to welcome the former first ladies (above, those of of Alaska) to lunch. This picture was taken earlier this month, long before Sarah Palin was chosen by John McCain as his running mate. There are a lot of women out there who are really going to like this photo!

As a man who decided to stay at home to take care of his kids, especially my son who was 6 months at the time, I applaud Mr. Palin for what he is doing. My circumstances were considerably different, but none the less, he deserves to be recognized for what he is doing.

What makes him "thoroughly modern"? That he is half the age of everyone else in the picture? Where did you even get that phrase "thoroughly modern husband"? It sounds like it came straight out of a detective novel! Is he "modern" because he has a nice body? nice suit? facial hair?
Or is it that he is staying home with the kids while she strives to make a national political reputation for herself in record time? Why is that "modern"? Why isn't it just responsible, prudent, caring? I would have thought that "modern" would entail sharing parental responsibilities rather than just reversing the traditional division of labor. I limited my working so I could share child raising responsibilities with my wife, who also works outside the home. Geez, I should have talked with you to know that the modern thing to do was just quit my job and raise the kids full time!
Besides, I thought what you liked about this family was its traditional values -- having the baby no matter what; having well adjusted children who don't go out and get knocked up on the side; advancing your political career by firing employees who get in your way -- you know, old fashioned traditional values -- and all this without doing such "modern" things as keeping informed on the Iraq war or foreign policy or learning anything about the economy besides that Alaska has lots of money these days.
How is any of this modern? If it were really modern, you would have nothing but contempt for it.

I salute you both! This was meant to be a light-hearted post. I found the picture and wanted to share it; I thought it was fun.
Women are lucky when their husbands support them in their job and also with the kids. That can be either helping with the kids or raising the kids, depending on what the couple agrees on. That is very modern. Old-fashioned men can be very unsupportive, by the way, just in case you didn't know.
