Gwen Ifill Named Winner of 2008 Dan Rather Integrity in Journalism Award

Wilmette is pleased to announce that it has awarded the 2008 "Dan Rather Integrity in Journalism" Award to Gwen Ifill of PBS. It was the announcement of Ifill's new book on the 2008 Presidential Election and the role of the Democratic contender, which will appear on Inauguration Day 2009, which made the choice clear to the judges who also mentioned that the decision was made easier when coupled with the fact that Ifill failed to mention her upcoming book when accepting the spot as moderator of tonight's Vice Presidential Debate.

The award does not carry a cash prize.

What a surprise! Prejudging a black woman who has exercised her constitutional right to freedom of speech by presuming that she will be biased in favor of a black candidate that she has taken the time to write about in advance.

I knew you could never trust those blacks to be fair to everyone else, especially when one of their own is involved!

This is the open-minded fairness that everyone in Wilmette can and should display! What a spokesperson you are givng her such an award in the name of our town!

I guess it is only bias when a black woman is involved. Why didn't you mention the clear liberal bias of Jim Lehrer? It is there for anyone who want to check. But that didn't seem to bother you.

The award is made without regard to gender, national origin, race or affiliational preference. Ms. Ifill was not the only candidate for the prize.

I thought she was a good and fair moderator. She asked some tough questions of both candidates, and allowed a good back-and-forth banter. She let lingering questions to be addressed.

I think her questions and guidance helped make this debate the most riveting of any I've seen.

I was impressed.
