Faces of Hope in Iraq
These hopeful and happy faces could be any kids down the block, but they are not. They are children of Bagdad, and the picture is current. Will the US cut and run, or will the US stay long enough in Iraq to give these children the bright future that they surely deserve?
These are the children who Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and the Democrats who join with his view would leave as quickly as possible. I am all for accountability, but it will be the American voter through the force of public opinion who ultimately decides whether we will give the new Iraq government the tools it needs to be able to conduct the democracy which they have chosen, or whether we will retreat.
Please think about these children in the coming days. They don't have a clue what a "bi-partisan plan" means, but you do. Stand up, speak out, with the goodness that is America.

I think the strongest argument to remain in Iraq (in force) is a moral one. It is stronger than arguments of interest or cautions against a "worst case scenario". I am all for staying in Iraq on moral grounds. But, to do so requires more diplomacy and more morality than this president mustered last night. He still will not provide sufficient resources for reconstruction.
If we don't address Sadr, we won't see an end to this conflict for some time -- a generation. The plan appears to be "gated communities" which means fixed positions. Prone to attack.
Hi Copy Editor,
Through your enlistment I know you are one of those who keeps those children in mind.
Morals matter. If more people become engaged in the discussion, the hope is that American goodness will win out. We would like to leave; I am sure the people of Iraq would like that, too. And we all would like them to have safety and security that makes all lives, rich or poor, better. I understand that actually there are only two real areas with ongoing problems. Unfortunately,Baghdad is one of them.
