Skate Park Blog

This may be an abandoned effort, but there actually is a blog by people who want a skate park for skate boards! The photos of Wilmette are pretty. Check it out here: http://skatewilmette.blogspot.com/

Public Servants now Public Enemies?

Got a mailing about the upcoming School Board Election. It had a reprint of a Chicago Sun-Times article how the current School Board is using public funds to fight assessment appeals on local Wilmette, Illinois homes in order to raise more money for the schools. This is scary stuff. I looked it up on the Internet and found these links. The Sun-Times one is here: http://www.suntimes.com/output/laney/cst-edt-laney23.html. The article also appears on this webite: http://parentadvocates.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=article&articleID=4234 along with other ways so-called public servants fail to serve the public. Take a look, if you are interested in putting yourself in the discomfort zone . . .

Tonight I met two of the school board candidates. One was Greg Johnson. He seemed like a nice, low key, businessman type. The other was Kimberly Vassilos. She seemed like a nice mom type. Greg Johnson gave me his business card. He has a paper business, so I looked up the website. It was really fun! It plays music and also has paper crafts! His company also has a program where companies can donate their extra paper to the needy. This seems like a guy with a sense of humor and a feeling for good works. Will have to explore his candidacy further. In the meantime, if you want to get involved in paper making, here's the link: http://www.johnsonpaper.com/play/papermaking.html
And, if you want to make a kite, here's the link: http://www.johnsonpaper.com/play/paperkite.html

Election time again in Wilmette; hope it will be civil. Sometimes it isn't.
