Wilmette Weekend: Make Plans for Oklahoma! and Verdi

Make plans now to head over to Gillson Park this weekend--the Broadway musical Oklahoma! will be playing at the Wallace Bowl tonight, Saturday, and Sunday at 8 pm. If you are wondering whether this will be another not-ready-for-prime-time provincial offering of the Starlight Theatre, I would say probably not--the musicals are usually excellent and well worth your time. And since it's free, you can't beat the price. No more blankets on the lawn, though, either take a chair or sit in the bowl. Consider going a little early and taking a picnic--stopping by the Jewel at Plaza del Lago is a lazy way to plan that! Or go even earlier and enjoy some quality beach time.

Oklahoma! will continue to play for the next two weekends: July 13, 14, and 15, and July 20, 21, and 22 at 8:00 pm. Click here for complete information.

Verdi's Requiem is on the schedule at Ravinia at 7:30 on Saturday. This is a great take-the-whole-family opportunity, with plenty of $20 pavilion tickets still available. The lawn is $10. You can purchase tickets right on the Internet and pick them up when you arrive. James Conlon and the CSO were in fine form last weekend, and (seriously!) the teens will love the music. Go early enough, and you can park nearby for $10. Or, take the Metra--its easy and fast. Complete information for taking Metra to Ravinia is here, here, and here.
