Wilmette Trustee Election: Vote Spillers, Basil, Teschendorf

Get out and vote! Polls are open until 7PM!

On Tuesday, April 17, 2006 vote for Karen Spillers, Mike Basil, and Gale Teschendorf for Trustee. Previously, we endorsed Spillers and Basil. We add the endorsement for Teschendorf after speaking with him, reviewing his literature, and looking at his website. His straight talking and clear thinking will bring a sorely needed new viewpoint to the Board.

A friend wrote me an email about his candidacy and I quote it:

"I met Gale Teschendorf today; he was the the only candidate to ring my bell. His platform is full of common sense that seems to be lacking in our current trustees. on His website, includes an interesting 'tax game.' It's not a game I'd like to play, but we probably all will."

Kind of strange to use the calculator from the people that are trying to raise taxes (Interfath Housing Council), to show how painful tax hikes are.

I am of the opinion that the key to providing affordable housing is lower taxes. Wonder if the IHC agrees?

Lower taxes are obviously the key, and extremely important. Lower taxes make housing more affordable. The biggest piece of your tax bill is the schools. A piece of what should be in your village tax bill is actually on your water bill, and someone told me that has to do with a loan covenant.

The Interfaith Housing Council has consistently refused to see the problems resulting from getting rid of the middle class. The IHC wants diversity in the community. That diversity has happened naturally in Wilemtte as more groups get a good education and a good job. I think the IHC is a fossil, but capable of making mischief, paving Wilmette's way to Hell with their good intentions.
