Supporting Sarah Palin: "Gender Trumps Everything Else"

Dr. Lynette Long, feminist mom who works as a psychologist in Bethesda, Maryland, is a longtime Democrat who supported Hillary Clinton in the Presidential primary. As a a political activist and the author of 20 books, Dr. Long is not only supporting Sarah Palin, she is urging feminists and other Democrats to support her also. Today, she writes in her Baltimore Sun op-ed,

"Children incorporate many of their perceptions about gender by age 5. Little girls won't understand if Sarah Palin is pro-life or pro-choice, believes in gun control or is a member of the NRA, but they will know the vice president of the United States is a girl - and that alone will alter their perceptions of themselves. . . .

"Right now, for me, gender trumps everything else. If Democratic women wait for the perfect woman to come along, we will never elect a woman. I will vote for McCain-Palin. I urge other women to do the same. I promise to be the first person knocking on her door if Roe v. Wade or any other legislation that goes against the rights of women is threatened. But in Governor Palin, I find a woman of integrity, who not only talks the talk but walks the walk. I can work with that. I will work with that."

After Hillary Clinton lost her party's primary, Dr. Long entered into a series of discussions with Sen. Obama's campaign about gender parity in an Obama cabinet. They weren't interested. Is that David Axelrod with his hat on in the stern of the boat? I don't know where Barack Obama is, but I am pretty sure that's his grandma and Rev. Wright in the water with their hands up.

Obama Preacher / Church Story Grows More Bizarre

The Barack Obama Trinity UCC Story grows ever more bizarre.

While I found that I was not strong enough to to stomach Rev. Wright's entire anti-American sermon as posted up on Youtube by the church, what's the big deal? He's not my pastor, and he's entitled to freedom of speech. According to press reports, the members of Trinity are very mad at everyone who dare says anything about their minister. In fact, the current Trinity UCC minister is referring to public comment on the recently retired Rev. Wright as a public lynching, equating a fairly predictable reaction to his anti-Americanism with the trials of Jesus. Well, there actually are actually worse things being said by Rev. Wright's defenders, but I don't think I will repeat them.

And more bizarre than Obama's extreme insistance about the importance of religion to him, now several stories are emerging that candidate Obama really didn't have time to go to church in the last year, anyway. Looks like an interesting week. The tepid complaints about Rev. Wright bear no reasonable relation to this sermon about Barack Obama by a preacher who strongly supports the Clinton candidacy.

As Thomas Sowell wrote today in his article, "The Audacity of Rhetoric,"

"Some are saying that Senator Obama cannot be held responsible for what his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, said. In their version of events, Barack Obama just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time -- and a bunch of mean-spirited people are trying to make something out of it.

"It makes a good story, but it won't stand up under scrutiny."

Dream-peddler Barack Obama might not end up being good for business in America, but Obama, Japan is counting on the US candidate for President to put their famous hot springs (onsen) on the global tourist map. Obama (the town) is crazy for Obama (the candidate) in a totally non-political sort of way, and they are putting up posters, watching election returns, and baking their signature sweets complete with pictures of Barack Obama.

Blogger Erika reports that Obama is a "beautiful, quaint fishing town with lush green hills, beautiful coastlines, and yummy sea food. They also specialize in luxury chopsticks."

The mayor of Obama--located between Kyoto and Fukui--has been hoping that Mr. Obama would visit, but to date the candidate hasn't even acknowledged the DVD, guidebook, and chopsticks which were sent to him. Undaunted, Obama's mayor is planning to send him another gift, a laquerware doll with the word "victory." Unfortunately, there is no information about the town's efforts on the official website for the hot springs. The Hillary and Barack Show: I'm Lovin' It!

For eight years Republicans have had to put up with the Democrats exhibiting the rudest political behavior I have ever seen in my life. In the name of advancing their agenda, the spoiled brat Democrats have pointed fingers, accused, made faces, and done everything short of sticking out their tongue at their opposition. I imagine they have lost some voters with their tactics; they certainly have offended me. If practice makes perfect, it's not surprising that the Democrats continue their puerile behavior when it comes to their own primary.

Now, Hillary and Barack are fighting about Ronald Reagan, of all people. As an ardent anti-Socialist and a firm believer in the capability of the average woman or man, The Gipper would have enjoyed this. He also would have pointed out that the current crop of Democrats are only fighting about the details of the kind of Socialism Democrats want to impose on the American people, and possibly warned us of the price to personal liberty we will have us pay.

Ronald Reagan not only had perspective, he had a sense of humor, and I am sure he could see the irony in this little Democrat squabble. Personally, I can't wait until the next chapter of the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama show, and I like to imagine our former president-- one of history's greatest advocates of Freedom--as pictured here.
