Why the Democrats Must Replace Dan Seals: Lord Haw-Haw Requests Your Vote

Remember Lord Haw-Haw? I didn't figure you did; I don't remember Lord Haw-Haw either. The greatest generation knew precisely who he was, a German propaganda operative working to destroy the spirit and soul of troops fighting against the Nazi scourge. Lord Haw-Haw belongs to an earlier day, when the only electronic medium was radio and propaganda efforts were easy to identify.

Caleb Davis is the new star of a political ad on television for Dan Seals. In it, he identifies himself--never by name--as a Iraqi veteran. In the ad he makes allegations about Mark Kirk that would have you believe that supporting the a vote for Kirk is a vote against not only America's soldiers but America itself. Kirk, one of only two members of Congress serving as a drilling reservist, and has a long history of supporting veterans.

War has its casualties and its only victims are not only those who are injured, maimed or killed. It takes a terrible emotional and mental toll on some of its participants, and that is how I choose to see Caleb Davis, who from all evidence honorably served the American cause in Iraq through his discharge from service. For some time now, Mr. Davis--a resident of Peoria--has been active with a group who claims that 9/11 was an inside job by the US government who sought to drum up public support for a war in the middle east. Odd as this may seem, this view is held widely throughout the middle east, even among the intelligent and the educated. But my problem with Mr. Davis is not that he is wrong or that he has cast himself into a bad lot. No one would want to deny Mr. Davis' free speech, a right to which Mr. Davis arguably was willing to give his life.

For a number of years I have followed this "inside job" theory, read the arguments and seen the videos, many of which a patriotic American would find sickening. My conclusion is that this is classic enemy propaganda, and much of it is done extremely well. It is not surprising that among those who hate or distrust the US government this theory has found a happy home.

It is time for Democrats and Republicans to join together to call for Mr. Seals' immediate replacement in the 10th District race. Propagating enemy propaganda is not suitable behavior for a candidate for Congress, nor should it be wearing the label of a mainstream political party.

He's Back!
Dan Seals on the Bailout:"You Bet I Do!"

I haven't had much to say about Dan Seals of late, and it's no wonder. Not only has Congressional candidate Dan Seals been quiet, he remains completely invisible in Wilmette, the suburb where he says he lives. To his credit, he doesn't live too far from the district in which he's running. That is, assuming he lives in Wilmette at all. A friend tells me that at the house where he supposedly lives there isn't one of those "Seals for Congress" signs on the lawn, and there wasn't one last time he ran, either. Smell a rat?

Dan Seals has one of those job titles that is popular to use on the North Shore when someone doesn't have a day job, "consultant." Well, he did call himself a professor for a while, but found himself in a little hot water when that turned out to be something like 6 or 8 night school classes (taught as an instructor) where he distinguised himself by inviting the felon Dan Rostenkowski over to his class to give him a little something in an envelope. Go Chicago!

You will love this video where Dan Seals discusses the bailout with the Tribune! More power to you if you can figure out where Seals stands. Perhaps this might be called "preserving one's options?" Of course, like so many who take a few years off from life (Seals has been running for the 10th Congressional seat pretty much non-stop for 4 years now), he seems a bit challenged by basic life skills, like answering a straightforward question. Not surprising. We all know people who don't bother having a job and what that does to maturity levels. While you might think this is another rich North Suburban guy enjoying his leisure while looking for a gig in DC, Seals says he doesn't live in the district beccause it costs too much. While Seals has paid himself from his campaign funds, I guess it didn't do the trick.

H/t to Team America, whose posted the video first.

Seals TV Message: Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!

The only change that Dan Seals, Congressional Candidate from Illinois 10th District, is going to take to Washington is the message how good life can be when you are a corrupt Illinois politician. In a state that seems to now be routinely sending its Governors to prison for their honesty and fair dealing, Dan Seas will bring genuine corruption know how to Washington. Compared to honest Congressman, Mark Kirk, that will definately be a change.

Guess it makes sense when Seals chooses Bob Creamer to train his staff (two felonies), Terry Link to organize his campaign (campaign indicted), Lauren Beth Gash to organize outside support (two huge FEC fines) and more. Dan even watched Tammy Duckworth break the Illinois ban on using state cars for campaigning at his own event.

Professorgate: Interest in Resume of 10th Congressional Candidate Dan Seals Widens

Two years ago, 10th District Congressional candidate, Dan Seals, was a darling of the “Act Blue” crowd, who couldn’t line up fast enough to send out-of-state money to an out-of-district candidate who, by any historic measure of past local election results, was trounced decisively at the polls in November, 2006. Following his loss, Seals never really stopped running as a candidate, and lately has come under fire for padding a resume which is suitable for a downstate representative, but thin for a Congressman.

Since Seals campaign has a history of national interest, it’s no surprise that the issue of Seals describing himself as a “professor” is being discussed around the country. Yesterday we weighed in with a “Professorgate” post, and today the Team America blog has a round up of who is discussing the teaching issue swirling around Seals. In addition, today’s Daily Herald takes off the gloves. According to the Herald,

"Seals doesn't begin his position as a part-time School of Continuing Studies lecturer until April, a Northwestern spokesman said. Shrugging it off as a miscue, Seals has started calling himself a lecturer in public forums, though as of Tuesday afternoon, his Web site still listed him as an adjunct professor.

'What it might show is I don't know what the proper terms are," said Seals, 36. "The idea that I'm trying to mislead or be deceitful is baseless.' "

Thin as Seals’ resume may be for a job in Congress, we would note that Seals major life pursuit to date—other than running for Congress—is gathering up degrees from prestigious educational institutions. Nevertheless, Seals seems to be lacking the skill to perceive the differences in teaching academia mastered by most college freshmen. We would submit that Seals—who has been the recipient of an education most 10th district parents only dream of for their children—has, in the words of lawyer Team America, “an issue of his veracity and credibility.”

Truth and believability are important issues in any campaign. According to the Herald, John Jackson, a political scientist and visiting professor at Southern Illinois University's prestigious Paul Simon Institute, said "[T]hat while all politicians exaggerate, they must be careful not to cross a line in campaign materials, interviews or at public events. 'It's a job application,' Jackson said. '"And you're not supposed to lie on your job application about what your credentials are.' "

Trouble for Seals, for sure, but it is a problem of his own making. If Seals had been honest and upfront with the voters from the beginning, he would never have had this problem.

Dan Seals' "Professorgate" Hits Mainstream Media

Today was not a good day for Dan Seals, Democrat candidate in Illinois’ 10th Congressional District. While candidates generally are happy for any coverage, the negative stories in the mainstream media cover the growing contraversy about how Seals characterizes himself. Articles in both the Pioneer Press and the Chicago Tribune address the fact that Seals--who doesn't even live in the district in which he is running for office-- has been saying he is a Professor at Northwestern University. The truth is, candidate Seals’ sole teaching credential is one night class that is scheduled to be taught in Northwestern’s continuing education department long after the February 5, 2008 primary.

Over the last month, Seals has come under increasing scrutiny by local bloggers and commenters for resume padding on this issue. Seals has not yet taught even one class. Lacking in the discussion is what will happen if enough life-long learners fail to sign up for the class to form.

The Team America 10th Blog has a series of posts, complete with dozens of comments, which appeared on January 5, January 16, January 25, and January 30 regarding what 10th district residents believe is--at best--lack of truthfulness by Seals. You can read the Tribune story on their website. The Pioneer Press story, however, will be available online for only a brief period of time; after that click here for a link to a copy.

Seals: In Search of (Your Spare) Change

The man pictured above, whose name is Dan Seals, is running for Congress in Illinois' 10th Congressional District. He is a Democrat, and he is the favored candidate of his party in the upcoming primary. Unfortunately, he isn't bothering to run in the district where he lives, the nearby 9th Congressional District. The Chicago Tribune reports that he says he can't afford to move into the 10th.

While admittedly Seals has little in common with the district (assuming the people who do live in the district can afford to live there), by voting for him you can get him on the path to a salary of $169,300 per year. That would help him a lot. In his vision, you have the ability, he has the needs. Now that's change! (Not to mention that it sure beats standing around with a battered cup.)

Seals' adversary, Jay Footlik, seems a little smarter about the district, realizing that in the subprime meltdown, it is pretty cheap to rent. His sensible approach to the current economic situation has put him in the heart of the district which he seeks to represent. Unfortunately, sensible economic approaches aren't of much interest to Democrats.

I would note that if Mr. Seals were to run in his own district and win, he also would earn $169,300 per year, plus the usual perks of office.

Dan Seals for Congress? Peace at Any Price!

I wrote earlier on why Dan Seals, is wrong for the North Shore and wrong for Congress. Seals, a Democrat, lives in the ultra-liberal 9th Congressional District but is running for office in the far more moderate 10th Congressional District. Now, the Backyard Conservative has a post on Seals and Israel, which is worthy of your consideration. You can read it by clicking here.

With Saddam Hussein planning a comeback, and the Mideast rubbing its hands in glee at the prospect of a Democrat Congress, this election matters and it matters a lot.

Somebody took a video of Seals at an interview earlier this year and posted it on You Tube. If you believe that United States should support Israel, you will want to see that video and you can do that by clicking here.

Interested in poll numbers? Commentary on that, along with a number of interesting posts on the 10th District race at GOPulse, based much further north in the district.

Dan Seals: Wrong for the North Shore, Wrong for Congress

I have been seeing those Dan Seals for Congress signs that have popped up in Wilmette and Winnetka, so today I decided to check out his website. I cannot believe what I saw there. This guy is wrong for the North Shore, wrong for Congress, and just plain wrong. It states "There was no connection between 9/11 and Iraq," and "At the end of the day, if Iraqis want democracy, they will have to fight for it themselves."

What a guy. Suppose we had told France, "If you want to be free of the Germans, you will have to defeat them yourselves." What if we had telegraphed to the Warsaw Ghetto, "Keep it up! We know you will be able to free yourselves from being sent to a death camp if you continue your good work."

Seals website must be inspired by a thousand websites and blogs in the Mid East, which you can easily access by a little Googling. His website--and his campaign---should inspire great hope for America's enemies abroad (and here), most of whom seem to be of the mind that the horrific events of 9/11 were a plot of the Bush administration.

Here's a list of his contributors. While Dan Seals campaign committee has a Wilmette address, Dan Seals doesn't even live in the district that he wants to represent as a Congressman. While that's not illegal, I think the Democrats could have found someone from the district to represent its constituents.
